The 2011 Toyota Prius is considered the Number 2 of all low -gas mileage cars with its EPA estimate of 51 mpg in the city and 48 mpg on the highway. This years’ Prius embodies the third-generation edition of the world’s most identifiable and most saleable hybrid in the market today. In spite of the fact that this hybrid has remained an extremely aerodynamic 5-passenger car, the 2011 Prius is bigger, greater and more fuel-efficient than the Prius 2nd generation model.
The 2011 Prius has a small neat exterior but with ample interior space to meet the criteria of a midsize car under federal government’s standard. The high ceiling makes for larger doorways and chair-like seats with sufficient head room.
This compact but highly fuel efficient car is offered in five trim levels ranging from I to V. All trim levels of the 2011 Toyota Prius are powered by a standard 1.8 – liter 4-cylinder engine and two small electric motors fired by nickel-metal hybrid batteries that produce a total output of 134 horsepower. It employs a continuously variable transmission that operates like an automatic transmission but uses extreme ratios instead of preset gears.
The 2011 Toyota Prius is also equipped with Totyota’s Hybrid Synergy Drive System that makes it possible to travel at city speed on electric motors only. The choice to use engine power or a mixed of gas and electric driving force is done through sensors. The objective is to arrive at an effective balanced speed and fuel economy. The Synergy Drive System has no plug – capability, it recharges using the engine and refined braking.
